Health Literacy

Comprehension is the cornerstone of effective communication. Tackling health literacy issues with targeted tactics can greatly boost patient care results.

Overview

Discover the key to effective patient communication with our Health Literacy Workshop. Tailored for healthcare professionals, this workshop empowers you to bridge the gap between medical knowledge and patient understanding.

Health Literacy is the cornerstone of patient care, encompassing the ability to access, comprehend, and implement health-related information. As a healthcare professional, your expertise, coupled with clear communication, plays a pivotal role in enhancing patient outcomes.

Why It Matters:

  • 60% of adults, including 88% of seniors, struggle with health literacy.
  • Chronic disease patients often manage their conditions alone, spending only 12 hours annually with a healthcare provider.
  • 1 in 3 patients leave without understanding their discharge instructions.
  • A mere 20% of healthcare professionals consistently verify patient understanding through teach-back methods.

This program helps health professionals who:

  • Anyone who supports, teaches or provides information to patients.

Topics include:

  • Define health literacy
  • Identify prevalence and effects of low health literacy
  • Understand their role and importance of communicating clearly
  • Apply “Universal Precautions” in health communication
